Spend a day drawing the desert while immersed in the Dr. Seuss-ian woodland world of the Joshua tree. Diane Best, artist and instructor, will guide participants through different ways of capturing the desert landscape with a variety of mediums. Best will discuss techniques for pencils, charcoal, pens and black acrylic paint and how to simplify the structure of the desert and find its essence. The focus of the class will be on traditional drawing materials. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to learn the process of using thinned acrylic paint as a wash like watercolor, and how to combine drawing mediums. While previous drawing experience is helpful, it is not necessary. Bring your drawing supplies, chair, and lunch, and prepare to enjoy the beauty of Joshua Tree National Park.
