Discover the fun of printmaking with visual artist Gretchen Grunt! In this new art class, Collage Monotypes in Joshua Tree National Park, Gretchen will guide participants in a day of creativity through the process of making monotypes through collage. Monotypes are an exciting printmaking medium combining drawing and layered collage elements to create one-of-a-kind relief impressions. The class will start with a field trip to Live Oak Picnic Area in Joshua Tree National Park where participants will begin the printmaking process by drawing on multiple plastic plates with a grease pencil. The class will finalize their art pieces in a printing session at the 29 Palms Creative Center in Twentynine Palms. The use of non-toxic soy oil inks, collage elements, and an etching press will complete the magical process of making unique collage monotypes! A variety of techniques will be demonstrated, using brushes, brayers, Q-tips, scratching, cheese cloth and layering of colors. Bring a lunch and any flat collage elements to use in your monotype print. All other art materials will be provided. No experience is necessary to have a great time!
