Learn the secret of how minerals, charcoal and other natural substances have been used as pigments and paints by the natives of California for thousands of years. Paul Campbell, is the author of Earth Pigments and Paint of the California Indians and has a deep interest in researching, preserving, and teaching indigenous skills. Campbell will guide participants through the ancient process of preparing pigments and turning them into paint. Through re-creation of traditional methods, participants will grind and prepare pigment, construct pouches, and craft brushes during the class. Participants will also have an opportunity to use their pigment to paint at the end of the class!
